Australia’s very own Spider-Man is Michael Baulderstone, the owner of a comic book shop in Adelaide, Australia. 45 year old Michael was dressed up as Spider-Man along with other browsers who were also dressed as their favorite comic book superheroes while celebrating IFCBD (International Free Comic Book Day) in Adelaide.
The International Free Comic Book Day is annually celebrated on the first Saturday of every May. It is an effort by the North American comic book industry to encourage new readers into browsing at independent comic book stores. Many participating comic book store retailers give away specially printed copies of free comic books or offer cheaper back issues and other items to anyone who visits their establishments on this day.
On Saturday, the 1st of May 2010, Michael was dressed as Spider-Man and stopped a customer from stealing a comic book worth $160 from his store. Michael had noticed a man loitering around the X-Men section, behaving suspiciously.
When he confronted the robber, he found an X-Men omnibus in the robber’s bag. Even before the robber could make a hasty run, Spider-Man called out to his friends at the store who blocked the robber’s exit. Interestingly, they were dressed as Jedi Knights who blocked the doors and The Flash who stood guard. Spider-Man, meanwhile, kept an eye on the thief until the cops came.
